I purchased this cd/dvd over a month ago.it was defective. The store indicated that they would send me a return envelope.I'M STILL WAITING
The music on this is really bad. Greed has many faces and apparently even the Dead organization is not immune. This release is shameful. Every book written about the GD confirms this, yet somehow it receives the "rare, unreleased, legendary' seal of approval and is put out. Save your $$$ for some of the '09 tour downloads, those are incredible. Do the boys really need the money. Or are there some underlying politics involved.
this is the worst live album i own by the dead and maybe by anyband or atleast tied.the only worse dead i have heard is from the 95 summer and spring tour and i cant stand you deadheads that will support anything the band does even if its crap.Bob Weir is such a Wh0re
Eveything that could go wrong did go wrong (as has been pointed out in other places). Seriously. The first time through I was about to give it 3 to 3 1/2 stars but I started to enjoy the weirdness of the whole event. Maybe it was the heat. This was the Dead at their most ambitious. I guess I was expecting the worst and that's why this recording from one of their nights in Egypt just doesn't seem that bad to me.
Who knows, you might like it.Lastly, my review is based on the download and not the cd/dvd release. For the rest of you who have heard all the bad stuff you might want to give this a whirl. Maybe they missed the mark but how many groups go and play at the Great Pyramid during an eclipse. Rocking the Cradle is more of an event album than anything else. An overall good groove. Maybe something from '73, maybe their best year. But I really like what we get. Now, if you're new to this whole live Dead thing then you might want to start with something else.
I'll say it didn't live down to my expectations. So, I give them two thumbs up for giving this a try and then I give the effort 5 stars for the band fighting through some oppressive musical roadblocks. For the collectors that seems like an awful cool thing. Of course, Donna was out of tune as usual and her typical lost self. And there is something about Jerry's guitar this night that stands out.
BASICALLY ANYTHING DONE UNTIL 1976 IS KILLER JAY ( SPARTANBURG , SC ) JAM BAND EXPERT THE BAND DID HAVE A LOT OF EQUIPMENT ISSUES BUT THE VOCALS AND SOUND ARE STILL FLAT AND AT ONE POINT BOB WEIR GOOFS UP THE LYRICS TO TRUCKIN'.IF YOU WANT KILLER LIVE STUFF TRY LIVE FROM THE VAULT 1,2,& 3 AND ANYTHING FROM THE FILLMORE CONCERTS.
